Intro to Argument Writing: The Battle of the Bars!

One of my most favorite lessons of all time EVER is the introduction to argument writing lesson "Battle Bars". Each student group is given a bag of candy. They are not allowed to open or eat it, but must use the information on the bag and the information the other groups have collected to argue that their candy is the best value. Students looked at calorie count per serving, nutrition facts, piece per bag and even the design of the wrappers to persuade their audience that their candy was the best. In the end, the two strongest arguments got to go head to head in a battle of the candy bars!

I really loved watching the kids come up with create ways to showcase their candy and of course some of their arguments were pretty funny!
